DiveVolt Coach is a video tool for diving coaches, run as a small pilot by its developer. This page says what it keeps, where, who else handles it, and how to get it deleted. Coaches use it; divers only ever see what a coach sends them by link.
What's stored
- Coach accounts: your name, email and a scrambled form of your password (scrypt; the password itself is never kept). Your review settings.
- Signing in with Google: Google tells DiveVolt your name, your email address (and that Google has checked it's yours) and your Google account id, which links your Google account to your DiveVolt one. Nothing else: DiveVolt never sees your Google password, contacts, files or mail.
- The team and roster: the team's name, each diver's name, gender (F, M or X), whether they've given consent, and when.
- Videos, as filmed, with a still image (poster) of each and a copy converted to play on any device. They're kept in private storage: nothing can be opened without a link the app signs, which stops working after at most a day (half an hour for a share link). Before upload, the phone blanks the video's location and camera details.
- What coaches add: dive codes, boards, stars, notes and drawings on the video.
- Pose data for divers who have consented: the position of each joint in each frame (a "skeleton"), and the angles, heights and timings measured from it.
- Call requests: if you book a call, the name, email, team and anything else you write in the form, so we can email you back.
- Share links you make, and when they were made and revoked.
- Security records: failed sign-ins (email and network address), kept for a day to slow down password guessing.
On your device: one sign-in cookie (HTTP-only, for 60 days or until you sign out), and in the browser's storage your tour progress, a copy of your review settings and uploads in progress. There are no ads, no analytics and no third-party trackers.
Who processes it
- Vercel hosts the app, and its Blob service stores the videos, posters and pose files.
- Google confirms who you are if you choose "Continue with Google" (above). It isn't sent any of the team's data.
- Neon runs the database: accounts, the roster, tags, notes, drawings, measurements and links.
- Modal is our video processor. Every clip goes there once to be converted into a copy that plays on any device (a phone's video often won't play in other browsers); the original is kept as it was. At the same time it checks whether the clip has a dive in it at all (a quick look for someone falling into the water, nothing stored), so a selfie or a clip of the deck can be set aside. Pose tracking also runs there, but only for divers with consent ticked. Modal gets a link to the one video that stops working within two hours, and sends back the copy, whether it's a dive, or the skeleton.
These companies handle the data on DiveVolt's behalf and may keep it on servers outside your country, typically in the United States. Nobody else gets it, and it's never sold.
Consent
Each diver on the roster has a consent box. Without it, a diver's clips stay inside the team: no share links and no pose tracking (they're still converted to play on any device and checked for a dive, as above). Coaches should tick it only once the diver (or, for anyone under 18, a parent) has agreed. Unticking it later stops that diver's share links at once.
Divers' sign-in
A diver sees their dives only after signing in with Google (through their team's link) and tapping their own name: nobody else's, and nothing without signing in. A coach can sign a diver out or turn their sharing off at any time; it takes effect at once, and a video already open stops within half an hour.
Elite reference clips
Clips of elite divers added for comparison are private to the team and can't be shared by link.
Keeping and deleting
- Everything is kept until a coach deletes it. Deleting a clip deletes its video, poster and pose files.
- Settings → Download my team's data gives you a copy (divers, clips' details, notes, drawings and links; videos stay in storage).
- Settings → Delete my account deletes your account. If you're the team's last coach it deletes the whole team too: every video and file in its storage and every record. The database provider keeps short-lived backups, so deleted records can take a few days to age out of them.
- A diver who wants their footage removed can ask their coach, or write to zhanggopher895@gmail.com.
Contact
For any question or request about your data (a copy, a correction, deletion), email zhanggopher895@gmail.com. If this notice changes in a way that matters, coaches will be told in the app.
